Helga Kromp-Kolb Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, A Title Regional manifestations of global climate change: What do we know? Abstract Climate change has become a household word and media abound with confusing figures on temperature, precipitation, ice melt predictions etc. What is their scientific background? How do global and local changes in climate differ? How can impacts be inferred from these data? The lecture will attempt to give an overview over climate change, focusing on the regional scale (Alpine Space and Austria) and including a general overview of the methodology behind climate analyses and scenario calculations. CV Helga Kromp-Kolb, born in Vienna 1948, graduated from the University of Vienna in Meteorology in 1971, specialized in environmental meteorology (Habilitation 1982) and was appointed Professor at the Institute of Meteorology of the BOKU-University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna in 1995. Her fields of research include climate change, especially in the alpine areas, air pollution dispersion and nuclear risks. In these fields she has coordinated and participated in many national and international programmes and projects and is scientific consultant to the Austrian government and other organizations.
